What is National Expungement Week?
National Expungement Week/Week of Action and Awareness started as a way to address many of the injustices caused by our nation’s war on drugs. Although this initiative has grassroots in combating the injustices to those affected by cannabis laws, this event is not cannabis-specific, and anyone in need of expungement or record-sealing processing, education, or other supporting services are welcome.
The change starts here.
National Expungement Week is a time where cities around the country organize and host community events specifically surrounding Record Expungement & Sealing services. In addition to assistance with Fines Relief & Reduction, DACA Renewals, Legal Name & Gender-Marker Changes, Youth/Juvenile Expungement, Educational Resources, Career Building & Support, Mental Health Support Services, Childcare Resources, Housing Resources Information, Job Training & Education, Voter Registration, Employment Resources,Social Services, and Food Assistance and Education.
Although this assistance is available, many do not seek due to a variety of reasons: they do not know they are eligible, they are financially unable to retain an attorney, they have had a negative experience with the justice system, or they do not know how to navigate the complex expungement process. Oregon National Expungement Week and its partners strive to eliminate those barriers.
Week of Action & Awareness
September 19-25, 2022
This Week of Action and Awareness aligns with the core values of National Expungement Works, and in collaboration with multiple community based organizations and businesses, PCC Clear Clinic and Clackamas Clean Slate Project seek to offer a source for support, advocacy, and solidarity. National Expungement Week started as a way to create and sustain both personal and public benefit. A thriving community creates opportunity for all its residents and helps remove barriers that limit economic, social, physical, and mental well-being. Our primary focus with Week of Action and Awareness events is to engage our communities in meaningful conversations, resources, and continue collaborating in action plans that further the goals to healing and liberation.
